Think
about it ---
- Every child shall spend almost 15,000 hours
of their lives in grade school alone
- Aside from knowledge and skills thought by teachers,
the school is where children learn life’s
lessons of friendship, hard work, perseverance
and more.
- God given talents are realized in an educational
institution whether it’s in academics, sports,
music, etc., and are developed through school
programs and teachers guidance. |

you find the place for your child to spend her formative
years, as we give you some practical tips towards a
successful school hunting!
Activity
#1:
Do your homework – Make a checklist of all the
things you want in your child’s school, such as
the following:
-
Proximity – short traveling periods to and
from school is a great advantage. More than savings
on your personal time, gas and money, a stress-free
way to school gives your child the energy and momentum
she needs in starting her day.
-
Security – Make sure your child is safe and
secure in her new school. Is it located in a peaceful
area? Can anybody just get into the school? How
many guards are there? Is there assigned personnel
that makes sure kids can safely cross the street?
Ask these questions to gain the confidence that
your child will be safe and sound in school.
-
Curriculum, Values, Programs – Check out the
school’s style of teaching. Are their subjects
comprehensive and challenging for the students’
age? Do they promote values towards academic excellence?
Do they have programs not just in academics but
also in areas where the creativity and other special
talents of your child in arts, sports, music or
literature can be honed? Remember, child rearing
also involves the type of environment they’re
exposed to.
-
Population – This is very important because
an overcrowded classroom is very disruptive towards
learning. This will cause teachers to focus on a
few children while overlooking some of them. And
those, she may not have paid attention to, may lead
to the children’s disinterest in learning.
Activity
#2: Research – Thank God for the technological
revolution, getting school information has become so
easy using the internet. All parents have to do is search
the school’s homepage and you’ll find everything
you need to know about the school — its administrators,
values, core strengths and the subjects/programs offered.
Make use of this information to help you make your decision.
Activity
#3: Survey – This simply means ask around
— go to the school and talk to the principal,
ask if you can sit in a class to observe. Talk to the
students’ parents about the school’s administration
and activities. Perhaps, you can even ask some of the
students themselves to talk about their experiences.
See how they like and enjoy their time in school. Asking
around will give you a better perspective about the
institution and see how parents are satisfied on the
academic and social development of their child.
Activity
#4: Ask your child - Let your child take part
in this life changing decision. Asking your child’s
opinion is really not that silly, whether she’s
three or off to college. Aside from your concerns as
a parent, you must take note of your child’s thoughts
and feelings towards the place where she is bound to
spend 8 hours of her day in. Your daughter’s participation
may even give you insights on what schooling is best
educated for her.
Activity
#5: Review & Reflect - This is one of the
most important decisions you’ll ever make. Know
your options, see to it that all your questions are
answered, and don’t settle for what is there until
you’re really sure it’s the perfect choice
for your child. Remember, this is your child’s
future we’re talking about.

School Hunting! |
