iPLAN To Help My Child Succeed In School

(Adapted from Tips To Helping Your Child Succeed in School by Dorothy Rich

1. Read to them and with them.

Visit the library. If they are old enough, make sure they have their own card. Keep books, magazines and newspapers around the house.

2. Teach your kids to do things for themselves.

Instead of working for your kids, teach them how to do it on their own. Patience when instilled to young minds pays off a thousandfold later.

3. Develop, with your child, a consistent schedule of jobs around the house.

Developing a weekly task with your child and involving him in it will develop his sense of responsibility.

4. At home, make a plan, put it into action, then follow through.

Setting house rules and enforcing it with your kids will make them good decision-makers in the future.

5. Instill confidence in your children.
Let your children know that you believe in their abilities and talents. Remind them of their previous successes - swimming, soccer, cooking, or in doing a difficult homework.
